2019 Goals & Objectives

Education Program

  • label Goal 1: Outreach

    Goal 1: Outreach – Serves as a statewide resource center to families who have, and agencies or school staff who serve children age birth through 21 who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, or deafblind by providing resources, technical assistance, sensory-specific evaluations, counseling, materials, equipment when available, and referral to others services.

    • Objective 1: Provide appropriate referral services to families with newly identified infants and toddlers to ensure early intervention services are in place by 6 months of age.
    • Objective 2: Provide training and support to families and staff working with children age birth through 21 to increase their skills in working with students who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, or deafblind.
    • Objective 3: Provide access to sensory-specific resources, adaptive equipment, and materials on a loan-basis.
  • label Goal 2: Campus

    Goal 2: Campus – Provides instruction to students from 18-months through 12th grade (and Post-High School when requested) who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, or deafblind aligned with the state standards and comprehensive curricula. Instruction includes academic subjects, support services, vocational and independent life skills education including Expanded Core Curriculum, social and emotional education, and extracurricular activities.

    • Objective 1: Show individual student learning and growth over time in reading and math as measured by NWEA Measures of Academic Performance (MAP) results.
    • Objective 2: Increase the number of students who are meeting or exceeding their growth targets for reading and math as measured by NWEA MAP results.
    • Objective 3: Using the assessment-instruction cycle, staff will identify and monitor individual student achievement towards meeting IEP goals and objectives as well as age-level and grade-level expectations.

Student Life Program

  • label Goal 1: Ensure students have access to a safe and healthy environment as their home away from home
    • Objective 1: Newly hired Cottage Life Attendants will become certified with Residential Child and Youth Care Professional (RCYCP) training by passing all class requirements.
    • Objective 2: Student Life Staff will continue to have Professional Development opportunities through annual trainings, cottage meetings, and will be offered CEU’s to maintain certification – a minimum of 12 hours per year.
  • label Goal 2: Ensure Student Life Staff are addressing the needs of the whole child by providing support with academics, social-emotional learning, independent living skills, and living a healthy lifestyle
    • Objective 1: Provide academic support by consistent communication with Education and Outreach staff as well as families, attending IEP meetings as requested, and facilitating homework completion as requested.
    • Objective 2: Provide social-emotional learning support by encouraging and facilitating student participation in extracurricular activities and after school clubs.
    • Objective 3: Provide modeling and education in independent living skills concepts and abilities through daily interactions using appropriate language and communication modes.
    • Objective 4: Provide education related to living a healthy lifestyle including 24-hour access to healthcare as needed.

General Services Program

  • label Goal 1: Review campus security and facility maintenance needs for each building
    • Objective 1: Audit each building to determine and prioritize security issues and facility short and long term projects on a two year cycle to be completed as the budget allows including possible energy conserving projects.
    • Objective 2: Maintain process for maintenance requests to be solicited, processed, and completed in a timely manner.

Administration Program

  • label Goal 1: Develops and implements the agency and schools' five-year strategic plan of continual improvement
    • Objective 1: Submit reports to the Office of Public Instruction to meet deadlines.
    • Objective 2: Maintains State and National Accreditation by submitting reports to accrediting agencies to meet deadlines.
  • label Goal 2: Maintain a centralized personnel system for the school
    • Objective 1: Review and update school policies and handbooks every even year.
    • Objective 2: Recruit, hire, retain, and evaluate qualified staff according to policy and state law.
    • Objective 3: Develop and review school-wide staff in-service training program on an annual basis.
  • label Goal 3: Develop and monitor school-wide safety and health program to enhance the safety and health of staff and students
    • Objective 1: Ensure each employee receives and/or knows where to find the safety handbook and signs off on employee acknowledgment of receipt and responsibility.
    • Objective 2: Hold annual safety trainings.
    • Objective 3: Hold monthly meetings of the school Safety Committee to review safety issues.
  • label Goal 4: Oversee and coordinate legislative and budget preparations and submittal process
    • Objective 1: Meet all deadlines for budget and fiscal note preparation and submittal including year-end processes.
    • Objective 2: Prepare and coordinate testimony before legislative committees.
    • Objective 3: Respond to legislative requests in a timely manner.
  • label Goal 5: Maintain centralized accounting, purchasing and asset management systems
    • Objective 1: Maintain tracking system for assets purchased by the school and conduct annual inventory.
    • Objective 2: Review internal controls on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of information input in to SABHRS.
    • Objective 3: Pay all vendor invoices in a timely manner.
    • Objective 4: Ensure compliance with federal grants and submit required reports to meet deadlines.
